What’s different about this third installment in the Resident Evil franchise? For one, Resident Evil: Extinction aims to overcome the tired locations of the past two movies (read: urban grunge and darkness) by replacing it with a sunny Nevada landscape. Traversing over a sand-covered Las Vegas, the courageous heroines of the multiple games in the series finally get to face their undead foes in sunlight. It’s much harder to craft a great horror epic in daylight, so one can expect a lot more action and a lot more visual detail to make up for the lack of “atmosphere” that darkness in horror movies usually brings. Spaghetti western meets horror – a new twist on a much-used genre. It also helps that the cast is manned by photogenic actresses Milla Jovovich and Ali Larter (recently of Heroes’ fame).
